Current Meter Data Inventory Use this form to search the IOS/Ocean Sciences Data Inventory for data from current meters in your study area. This application will search our on-line INVENTORY of Rotor Current Meter (RCM) data, Acoustic Doppler Current Meter (ADCP) and S4 current meter data and return information about the data records that meet the search criteria but WILL NOT return the actual data. At the present time, the current meter data is not available on-line to external users. Internal users may use this
application to generate list of profiles that are accessible by the DFO local and wide
area networks to authorized users. Note: all results are return in order of DATE/TIME of data collection, from oldest to most recent. If you encounter ERRORS... Search Tips
Acoustic Doppler Current Meter ADCP instruments are capable of storing up to 128 depth bins of velocity data, each having a U and V component, and are labelled in the data file as NortV1, EastVI; NortV2, EastV2; etc…. There are also parameters associated with the instrument itself (such as temperature, pitch, roll, heading) in addition to the date/time data that contribute to the size of the dataset. The number of channels are identified in the *FILE : NUMBER OF CHANNELS section of the header and values exceeding 100 are typical of these deployments. IOS Shell was not designed to accommodate more than 40 channels in the data file. As the ADCP files typically have more than 40 channels it is first necessary to remove the ADCP depth channels that are not relevant to the analysis. This is accomplished by applying the REMOVE CHANNELS program in the Process -> General Data Processing section of IOS Shell. Rather than removing many channels the user can select the ‘specified channels are to be kept’ option (second form) and identify which channels to keep (all others will be removed). Having been converted to a data file with less than 40 channels the entire suite of IOS Shell programs is available to analyse, summarize, and plot the ADCP data. The IOS header format convention provides metadata information for each ADCP deployment such as:
